LAMPLUGH WI

IT was with great sadness when Brenda Shaw started our April meeting with silent prayers and thoughts for Maureen Fisher who had just lost her sister.

Although Pat was not a member of our WI she always supported our activities, and joined us on many of our walks on a Friday morning. She was a very popular and well thought of person within our WI.

Apologies were then given out from Gloria Williamson, Rita Mather, Muriel Simpson, Maureen Fisher, Mary Thompson and Joyce Litt.

Minutes of the last meeting were then read out by Helen King, and Joyce Reed gave us the financial report.

We were then reminded about the Antiques Road Show, to be held at the Ennerdale Country House Hotel, Cleator, on April 21, at 7.30 pm. Final arrangements were then made for the pie, pie, pudding and poetry evening, on Friday April 11, at 7.30 pm.

Rose Watson asked if we had any more names to go down for our Skipton trip on June 18. Brenda then brought up about the meeting to be held in the Hall on Monday, April 14, at 7pm, on the future of the Hall.

A thank-you letter received from Mary Thompson for the tulips and get well wishes she had received from the WI. Leaflets were passed around advertising an exhibition to be held at the Helena Thompson Museum, Workington, entitled "Women's Freemasonry Explained", for anybody interested in attending.

Brenda then welcomed our guest speaker, Mary Bradley, who works for Age Concern. She gave a very interesting talk on the innumerable things they do to help the elderly. These include cutting people’s nails, and she told a story of an old gentleman doing so with garden shears. They feed patients in hospital who can't manage themselves; had have taken computer courses.

Brenda Shaw gave the vote of thanks and much appreciation was given to Age Concern for all its good work. Rose Watson was the winner of the raffle and Brenda McConnell won the competition – “Your remedy to Stay Young”.
