THE April meeting started with the singing of Jerusalem. Mrs Fleming welcomed members and also our speakers for the night Ann and Avril from The Beacon.
Members then stood in sympathy with Pat Wilson who had recently been bereaved. Correspondence included leaflets from Constable Burton Hall, Cumbria Wildlife Trust NFWI Annual Review, also The Resolutions for the AGM 2008, at Liverpool. These were discussed and voted on. Dates for oncoming events were April 5, Spring Council Meeting, Carlisle; April 11, Lamplugh WI, Pie, Pea, Pudding & Poetry evening, April 24 Table Top Rummage Sale.
The speakers from The Beacon first told us how they had started their talks after The Beacon opened in 1996. There were rumblings about the reserve exhibits not seen and it was a WI in the south of the county that first asked for a talk and since then they have travelled the county.
Our talk The Fabulous Fifties was a new talk. They had various items with them including comics, records, household things, even down to the stone hot water bottle!
They brought back happy memories to our members, also some things we had forgotten. The competition: A Spring Poem was won by 1 Mrs B Nicholls ; 2 Mrs M Nicholls.
After tea and biscuits provided by Mrs I Gate, during which the NFWI raffle tickets were sold, the meeting ended with the National Anthem.
