The club’s three former Kiwi favourites, Leroy Joe, David Fatialofa and Aaron Lester were inaugurated in to the Recre Hall of Fame at the Vice Presidents’ first fund-raiser. And Haven believe the re-formed group can help them thrive.

“The club really appreciates what the Vice Presidents are doing to aid us in signing further players,” said chief executive Barry Richardson.

“We are delighted at the relationship with them, and the work Ron Batty and Des Byrne are doing.

“Everyone has the same goal in making Whitehaven successful, on and off the field, and we’ll work closely with them.

“The Kiwis were really touched to be nominated for the Hall of Fame. It meant a lot to them.

“Everyone had a fantastic night, and by all accounts Des did an excellent job compering the evening. People were asking when the next one would be.”

Ex-Whitehaven and Great Britain full-back Ray Dutton stepped in as a special guest after top-class ref Ben Thaler had to withdraw from the event.
