LOYAL Whitehaven backer Washington Group will tonight announce a whopping increase of £14,000 in its sponsorship for the new season, taking the company’s commitment at the Recreation Ground to £40,000.
The official announcement that Washington is increasing its financial support will be made at the club’s launch night in Whitehaven Civic Hall.
Iain Irving, West Cumbria operations director of Washington Group, said: “We have been delighted to be a sponsor of the club which plays such a large part in the community and social life of the area.
“We have been supporting it since 2000, a period which has coincided with great success for the club, and wider involvement with the community.
“As the new season begins, we hope that our increased support will help Haven to even greater heights.”
Washington reiterated its support in July last year, when Preston Rahe, president of the company’s International Energy and Environment Business Unit, visited the Recre.
He presented a £5,000 cheque to the club to boost their community development programme and described Washington’s involvement with the club as “wonderful”.
Haven chairman Des Byrne said: “We are delighted by Washington Group International’s continued support of the club.
“It is a tremendous deal for us, they are a terrific company to work with and have a real interest in the club and community of Copeland.
“They have sponsored us since 2000 which shows they have real commitment and interest in the area and we look forward to working with them over the coming season.”
Coach Dave Rotheram said: “This is probably one of the longest-running sponsorships in the National Leagues, which is very good for both parties. Any added investment will go to improving the club.”
Washington is one of the world’s leading engineering, construction and project management companies and has worked as a contractor at Sellafield since 1999.
Fans are invited to meet the Haven squad at the launch night which starts at 7.30pm.
