Eye on the Ball

Put a plug in talent drain!

WATCHING Lee Mossop, from Whitehaven, cap an excellent performance with a cracking try for Huddersfield in the Super League brought it all home again: the talent drain.

Kyle has that X-factor

ON a hot afternoon when I half expected Gregg McNally to have a fair crack at Vince Gribbin’s six tries in a match scoring record, it was ironic that a forward should steal the show.

Rockin’ and rollin’ at the Rec

NO sooner had the directors given us some upbeat message about the future then the players go and put a proverbial foot in it slumping to another dumb defeat at rock bottom Batley.

The French Connection

IF anyone was getting a little frustrated that Whitehaven seemed more about selling than buying players, then now we now why.

Haven aim to slay another former boss

NEVER lose the faith – Pride, passion and fire proved more than a match for Paul Cullen’s game-plan which floundered against Haven’s ferocious offensive defence.

Can Haven rise off sickbed for TV?

THE sun shone in Toulouse, but not on Whitehaven. Four defeats in a row.....and a team already riddled with injuries.

Will Haven stop the rot or face the chop?

NO hiding places across the channel for Whitehaven. Preparation and performance for both players and coaches must be spot on if the rot’s to be stopped in Toulouse.

A Freudian slip?

IS this a suitable case for psychoanalysis – or will a collective kick in the pants suffice?

Blank holiday!

IF Haven persist in starting matches like the proverbial tortoise, they’re not going to see, let alone make, the finishing line. No matter the heroics and how many hat-tricks the elusive pimpernel – Gregg McNally – manages to score!

A golden egg or will Haven be shell shocked?

WILL the golden Easter egg roll Whitehaven’s way spring-boarding a genuine 2009 championship title challenge?

Sacre bleu! Haven just escape guillotine

THERE wasn’t a Toulouse sausage in sight at The Recre on Saturday evening but for quite a long while it looked as though Haven were in for a champion-ship-stuffing from the new boys across the channel.

Scent of victory!

AS headlined in this column last week, Whitehaven did their talking on the field at Featherstone and head coach Ged Stokes answered his critics in the most emphatic way.

More questions than answers

YOU can ask any Whitehaven RL official whether the club will make a bid for Super League status next time round and you won’t get a straight answer. Not that I can blame them!

How the other half live

IT’S going to be an eye-opener for Whitehaven at Leigh on Sunday – in more ways than one.

Don’t settle for second best

IF Whitehaven is to have a Sports Village, then it must also have a Super League stadium.

Time to kick ass!

THINGS are definitely moving although not as fast as some would like. I speak of Pow Beck and the prospect of top class sports and leisure facilities of which a state-of-the art stadium suitable for elite rugby league (and community use) is jewel in the crown.

Do we really want Super League?

NO disgrace, no humiliation in shipping more than half a century of points in the Bradford Bulls stampede, but on a cold day it was a chilling reminder of the strides Whitehaven still have to make to have a side capable of plying a decent trade in Super League.

Let the drawbridge come down for us!

IS this Sunday’s visit of the Bradford Bulls a harbinger of good things to come for Whitehaven?
