Aussie Cameron flies in as Haven prepare for season

VERSATILE new Aussie recruit James Cameron will add to competition across Whitehaven’s back line, reckons coach Dave Woods.
The 24-year-old, who holds an Italian passport, will touch down at the Recre on January 4 to begin his preparations for the new season.
“He can play wing, full-back or centre, and can put pressure on those blokes out wide,” said Woods. “He’s quick with upper body strength, and he’s a good finisher of tries. He has been taught well and adds some experience as well.”
Cameron has been on Haven’s radar for some time and the club decided to make a move after he was strongly recommended by ex-Recre ace Peter Camroux, who coached him at Balmain Tigers and has been scouting for the club in Australia.
Cameron, from Sydney, has featured for Burleigh Bears in the Queensland Cup over recent seasons and the 6ft 2ins flyer tips the scales at a bulky 95kg.
Admission prices for next season will rise to be brought in line with most Championship clubs. They have been set at £15 for adults, £10 for concession and £5 for Under-16s – for ground and grandstand.
Adult and concession season tickets will allow entry to 13 home league fixtures, which gives a saving of three games at the regular admission price. Children’s season tickets also allow entry in to 13 away league fixtures.
Tickets go on sale on Monday from the club office, 9am-3pm, and from Whitehaven Embroidery, Church Street.
New season tickets will cost £150 for adults, £100 concessions and £30 for youngsters.
Fans also have the option of paying for season tickets monthly by joining Haven’s Gold Club. The club’s new home shirts are due for delivery on December 7 and will cost £45 for adults, children at £40 and £35 for mini kits.
A race night organised by fans group Trust in Haven to help improve the life of Brennan, son of stand-off Jamie Rooney, raised £421. Players Scott McAvoy, Stephen Fox and Danny Barker were among those who turned out.
The Thorp Workers Charity group kindly donated an iPad to the youngster, who suffered brain damage after he was born nine weeks premature in 2002.
The iPad will stimulate his vision and memory skills, and his family hope to purchase a specially-adapted bike to open up his life a little. Trust in Haven want to raise another £1,000 to fund the purchase.
