LOUIS Jouffret will add some French resistance to Whitehaven's back line after penning a deal at The Recre.

The half-back agreed a permanent deal last month, but waited until his deal existing with Elite 1 team Union Treizist Catalane came to an end to announce the switch.

Former Super League prospect Jouffret enjoyed a short stint in West Cumbria last season, scoring twice and kicking 28 goals.

Haven boss James Coyle admitted the 23-year-old was key to Haven's revival, and when Jouffret's loan ended: "It's no secret that picking up wind coincided with Louis' arrival."

His full-time deal will give Coyle options as Jouffret can play half-back or switch to full-back if needed.

Having the Frenchman on Haven's books is yet another signal of intent from the club aiming to improve on last season's stuttering form.

Coyle said: “Louis is an exciting signing for the club and we are over the moon he has came to England from France to play for Whitehaven.

“It was clear last season that Louis made a massive impact on the team when he arrived and after he left we struggled to find someone to replace him.

“He understands the way we want to play and he is very professional with ambitions to succeed at a higher level. As a club we are looking for good people as well as players. Louis’ attitude and work ethic is fantastic and that is what we want at Whitehaven.”

The France under-19 international started his career with Warrington Wolves before switching to Catalans' resereve team.

He is the son of Catalans' chief executive Christophe.

The club's management have worked tirelessly throughout the off-season to put together a side capable of challenging the Championship's best in 2016.

Haven have also confirmed the date for the annual Ike Southward Memorial clash with neighbours Workington. It will take place at The Recre on January 23, kick off 6.30pm.
