HAVEN will stay up this season says confident general manager Amanda Hewer ahead of their final crunch Championship Shield game against Doncaster on Saturday.

If Haven win the clash they are guaranteed a place in the Championship next season but if they lose and Hunslet go on to beat Batley on Sunday then it will all go down to points difference as to who faces the drop.

However, it would need a 58-point swing to make this happen and Hewer says the Haven players are confident they can go out on Saturday and do the job needed to keep them in RL's second tier.

"We are fully confident. The lads know what they have got to do and they will go out there and do their jobs," she said.

"We now know what we are up against, the uncertainty has been taken away and we are confident."

She said last Sunday's heavy defeat at the hands of rivals Workington Town was already forgotten about and they were fully focused on this weekend's clash.

And Jessie Joe Parker looks set to return to boost the side, although Dave Allen is still struggling with injury.

"It is always a massive boost to have Jessie in the side, he is a big miss to us so we are looking a bit better this week," she added.

Hewer also praised the fans for their support this year and in particular Shaun Drinkwater who has organised travel to all the away games.

"They have been fantastic all year, especially the travelling support," said Hewer. "We have had full buses to most away games which is a boost for the team.

"They have had some tough results to watch but they have always been there cheering for us."

Saturday's game, which kicks off at 6.30pm, also marks the 10-year anniversary of Haven winning the National League One title, ahead of long-time favourites Castleford Tigers.

The team will be wearing a one-off kit for the match and there will be celebrations at the ground, with activities for youngsters including a bouncy castle and entertainment in the bar following the game.

On Friday, September 21,

10 years to the day when Whitehaven beat Castleford in the qualifying semi-final, when the team were also presented with the minor premiership trophy, the club will hold a special evening to celebrate the milestone.

Members of the 2005 squad and then coach Steve McCormack will be in attendance and there will be highlights from that season.

The evening will be hosted by Howard Nicholson and there will be entertainment from comedian and impressionist Leslie Gibson.

Tickets are priced at £25, including a two-course meal, and can be purchased by contacting the club on 01946 328088.
