FLYING winger Jessie Joe Parker will miss Monday’s crunch Super 8s clash with Hunslet Hawks after picking up a knee injury just two games into his comeback.

Parker damaged a tendon in his knee in last weekend’s superb victory over high-flying Dewsbury Rams.

But, after attention from the club physio, the damage is not as bad as first feared and he looks likely to be out for two weeks rather than the rest of the season.

“He looks to have strained his medial collateral ligament but at least it is not as bad as it appeared on Sunday,” said Haven general manager Amanda Hewer.

“It is just a shame he is out again so soon. You don’t realise what Jessie does until he is not there. Having him back was fantastic the past couple of weeks.”

But the good news for the club is that Dave Allen is closing in on a return and will face a late fitness test this week to see if he is ready to get back on the field.

“Dave shouldn’t be far away,” Hewer confirmed. “We will see how he goes at training this week as it would be great to have him back.”

Hewer said Monday’s match with Hunslet is crucial, as if they can beat them, the Hawks look almost certain to be the second club relegated and that takes the pressure off all the remaining sides.

And that means Haven will go all out to wrestle fourth place away from neighbours Workington and secure the final play-off berth in the Championship Shield.

“We have got nothing to fear. If we keep playing the way we are then we have 100 per cent confidence,” said Hewer.

“If we can take the points from Hunslet I think that is them looking to be relegated and that is the threat of relegation gone.

“And 100 per cent we are looking to finish fourth so two points is what we are aiming for.”
