WHTEHAVEN forward Sam Brooks has spoken of his pride after making his international debut for Scotland.

Brooks was a late call-up to former Haven boss Steve McCormack's Bravehearts squad and the 22-year-old made his debut in Saturday’s 32-18 defeat to France in Avignon.

Despite the result, Brooks is proud of his achievement and is determined to improve this season in his bid for a Four Nations call-up at the end of 2016.

“There were mixed emotions after the game,” Brooks told News & Star Sport. “We were disappointed with our first half performance and we spoke about that at half-time.

“We said with it being the last half of the tournament we needed to go out there and save face and I think we did that.

“It’s a team game but you pride yourself in how you play and I think I played really well. I had a lot of good feedback after the gameand the people I spoke to were impressed.”

After winning last year’s European Championship to secure their place in the 2016 Four Nations, the Bravehearts finished as Wooden Spooners in this year’s competition.

“We started slowly and were caught a bit short,” Brooks added. “And they had quite a few players from Catalans Dragons in their squad but we dug in and we’ll get a lot of experience from that game.

“The effort was there and the average age of our squad is only 22. To play in the Four Nations next year would be a dream come true.

“England, Australia and New Zealand are the best teams in the world and you want to be playing them.”
