Wath Brow 24 West Hull 22: Peter Caddy’s third try of the afternoon sealed the victory for Wath Brow Hornets in the NCL Premier Division on Saturday.
A last-minute dash down the field from young Hornet Fran King led to Caddy picking up his hat-trick in the corner and Wath Brow picking up three points with a 24-22 win over visitors West Hull.
It was a hard fought game with both sides giving their best and the game flowed from end to end.
The Hornets went ahead on eight minutes with a try by Charlie Tomlinson, converted by Karl Dixon and they went further ahead after Caddy’s opening try shortly after.
But the Hull side had levelled matters by half time with two tries and one conversion of their own to get right back into the game.
Caddy picked up his second shortly after the restart but then a further two tries, the second converted put the visitors into the lead for the first time at 20-14.
But the young Brow side hit back with a Ryan Doran try, converted by Dixon to level again at 20-20.
Then the home side gave away a silly penalty with five minutes remaining that West Hull converted to make it 22-20.
But the youngsters showed a lot of spirit and never-say-die attitude which resulted in the third try for Caddy in the dying seconds which sealed the match.
