WITH the introduction of foundation degrees, the whole concept of higher education has changed. For those who are still a little confused, a foundation degree is work- based learning qualification delivered by colleges and universities in partnership with local employers.

AFTER what could only be described as a somewhat wet and grey winter the last couple of weeks brought us sharp sunshine and the early signs of Spring. I hope that it signals a bright start to what will turn out to be a very fruitful year for the future of West Cumbria and the many projects we in the NDA are involved with.

Reacting to the UK's nuclear strategy

AS THE Government unveiled plans for a new generation of nuclear power stations, the National Skills Academy for Nuclear announced that it has selected the University of Central Lancashire, working with Portsmouth University, to develop leading-edge foundation degrees capable of supporting job progression opportunities in Britain’s nuclear industry.

IN JANUARY the government announced plans to invest in the next generation of nuclear power plants, which may have caused uproar outside of the county, but within the county the news was welcomed with quiet anticipation.
