Tributes have been paid to a “beautiful” young mum found dead at her home.
Mica Atkinson, 22, of Wasdale Close, Mirehouse, Whitehaven, died at about 1pm on Tuesday. Police were called by paramedics who pronounced Miss Atkinson dead at the scene. Social network sites were inundated with tributes to the woman, who has a two-year-old daughter called Lilly, within hours of her death.
Television talent show contestant Cory Spedding wrote on Twitter: “Awhh man, feeling down about the thought of Mica. At least she’s up in heaven with the angels. You’ll be so missed girl. x”
Callie Pearson tweeted a photo to the site, adding: “Just shows you have to cherish every moment in life. RIP Mica, heart goes out to the family and even more to beautiful Lilly, sleep tight, xx.”
Stephanie Kardashian said “life is too short”, while Brent Hood wrote: “Can’t believe I’ve lost a good friend. She was taken from us too soon. I won’t forget all the laughs we had. Sleep tight Mica. We’ll miss you.”
Her sisters also posted comments on their personal Facebook pages, expressing their grief.
Neighbours said they were saddened and upset on hearing of the tragedy. One described her as “a really nice girl and very independent, the last person you would expect this to happen to”.
“She was totally wrapped up in looking after her little girl. This is so very sad,” another neighbour added.
A former pupil of Whitehaven School, Miss Atkinson had only moved out of her mother’s home and into Wasdale Close earlier this year.
It is understood Miss Atkinson was a diabetic and dependent on insulin.
She was the eldest daughter of Nicki Huddart, of Mirehouse and Chris Atkinson and sister to Samantha, 30, Jessica, 20 and Georgia, 16.
The death is being treated as suspicious and detectives are investigating the circumstances.
A 25-year-old Whitehaven man arrested on suspicion of manslaughter has been released on police bail, pending further inquiries, until February 2013.
Family liaison officers are supporting relatives.
