I used to work in a fish factory during the summer of 69 i was only there for the summer to make a bit of money before i headed off to university and let me tell you folks it is not a walk in the park and it certainly aint nice coming home smelling of fish let me tell you my girlfriend at the time would'nt give me a cuddle after a hard days work because i STUNK.

New factory with 50 jobs in the sea food industry, great news for the Eastern Europeans who will be taking the jobs. Nobody local would give up their benefits to do a hard days work and come home smelling of fish.

I first started work over here at Bata working a TWO SHIFT system.I believe that British Industrial Plastics were working a THREE SHIFT system and TYNE BRAND may of had a night-shift.

IF YOU LIVE NEAR FACTORYS EXPECT NOISE E.T.C. LETS HAVE JOBS not second homes !!

Tasha

OK, sorry, your parents bought the house. I think you need to have a serious word with them. Was the house cheap or something?

Then you can get some earplugs and if you get a job there you won't have far to walk to work and you needn't buy an alarm clock as they will wake you up with the noise.

Being from Maryport I welcome any jobs but also respect that homeowners do have to have a quality of life. The homes in Grasslot and Ewanrigg Rd were there along time before any factories. Bata, Spillers etc worked mon-Fr, no night shifts and no week ends so residents did have a quality of life.

Do you have a Job Tasha ? you are only 18 you say and you are renting a house or are others across the road working and paying it for you ?. Maybe you should be up and about at 05:30 or 6:00am.

While the pay may not rank with that of people we used to call council clerks, I favour any project that brings a significant number of jobs to Maryport, and, though I can't see that happening in my lifetime, I would not care, if the factory were to replace the school nextdoor to which I live, though I'd miss the sound of infants at play.

I guess, if the project goes ahead, we'll be able to buy a wider range of excellent Polish food and drinks at the Co-op; stocked for the East European immigrants who will, even under the Condems, no doubt come here to do the work that the natives don't want.

Since the proprietor of the proposed plant is a former local lad made good, I hope he will not, like the boss of the former Cumbrian Seafoods, take the grant money and run; or should I say leap into his whirly bird and head East?

Who said anything about buying the house? some how i dont think so..im 18! ive lived in the house a year, it wasnt open when i moved there.. u try living opposite it, and at half 5 in the morning when they are opening up you would complain aswell, there is no need for all the banging..theres a pertition going around..im not bothered about people getting jobs or not.

tasha, due to health and saftey, im certain the new employees of glendawn factory, will supply you with a yealy supply of ear protectors. i lived years ago next to mcvitties in carlisle.there wasnt one thing the residents could do about parking cars, slamming car doors etc, we were all glad there were jobs in the area. and thats what maryport needs JOBS, not modern day morna-leas .
