There were lots of laughs, cheers and boos as Whitehaven Theatre Group showcased its festive pantomime.

Talented members of the group performed to a packed audience for last night's opening night of Cinderella.

And from the moment the curtain went up at Egremont Market Hall, the crowd was mesmerised by the show.

From the side-splitting cheekiness of the ugly sisters, played by Michael Quinn and Stuart Evans, to the fantastic performance by 16-year-old Jasmin Smith as Cinderella, there was plenty on offer for all ages.

The audience were made to feel part of the production throughout, as they joined in with the singing and dancing and really got into the Christmas spirit.

One of the highlights had to be when the Fairy Godmother’s magic was cast to make it possible for Cinderella to go to the ball. The junior dancers, dressed as mice, did a stunning routine before being joined on stage by intermediate and seniors while a giant, sparkling, carriage made its way through the crowd – it was magical.

A special shout-out must go to Shaun Donald, who was once again playing the much-loved character of Buttons. The way he interacts with the crowd and has people of all ages in bouts of laughter is faultless.

Shaun, who is also director, promised that this was the best panto yet – and while walking out of the market hall, many of the crowd were strongly agreeing with him.

The show runs every night until Sunday as well as 1pm on Saturday and Sunday.

Tickets are £8 (£7 concessions). Call 07588051942.
