Wayne Southwell of Wayne's World Pet Shop in Whitehaven launches our new blogs giving 'views from the High Street'....
WELCOME to the first ever “Views from a Duke Street pet shop” blog. Each week I’ll try and advise you on a different aspect of pet care, let you know what has been going on in the Street, tell you any funny stories from the week and who knows what else will pop up here. If you would like any topics covered please just ask and I’ll do my best to cover them.
I must apologise now but I will go on and on about the importance of your pets diet throughout the weeks, I am passionate about this subject as having your pet on the correct diet will improve their life immensely. I will cover different pets and diets in the coming weeks and months but today I’ll give you something to think about. Having the best food for your pet doesn’t necessarily mean you need to buy the most expensive but definitely avoid the cheapest. I always tell people to get the best food they can afford as a good balanced diet can help avoid problems such diarrhoea, excessive flatulence, joint & muscle problems as your pet gets older and obesity. A good balanced food can help keep your vet bills down too. The better quality pet foods will also mean smaller portions (so quite often they don’t really cost much more).
Avoid wet dog and cat foods at all cost, they tend to be full of additives, water and very little meat. Where as dry food will help to keep your pet's teeth relatively clean through the crunching of the biscuits wet food won’t provide this cleaning and often gets stuck in their teeth where it will rot and give your pet bad breath.
TOMORROW: How to find out how good your pet food really is.
