Ex-Whitehaven ace Adebisi warns London will be no push-overs

Ade Adebisi warned that a new-look London Skolars were no soft touch ahead of his return to his old club Whitehaven on Sunday.

Skolars lie just three points behind Haven in the Championship One table and the winger revealed they were targeting one of the four precious promotion places on offer this term.

“Everyone in this division is aiming for the top four, if not they have no ambition,” Adebisi said. “I’d like to think that with this squad, we can reach that target, if we work hard and believe in each other.

“I think we have about 10 new faces and are proving to the rugby league world we can do it.

“It’s a different Skolars now. It’s like a community at Whitehaven, and that’s what coach Joe Mbu has turned our team into.

“Everyone lives miles apart and it’s difficult to bond, but it’s different this year. Everyone’s having fun and it’s good to see a London team like that.

“The old Skolars had a few good players but the whole squad is now competing and it’s hard to get in the team.

“We know people underestimate us, but we almost won at Workington, where a few decisions went against us.

“If we play like we did against them we will have no problems and hopefully I’ll score another hat-trick!

“I feel good and have scored seven tries so far this year.”

Town beat them 27-20 at Derwent Park five weeks ago, and in their last outing Skolars drew 20-all with fancied Oldham.

Last month London signed Michael Worrincy, who at just 26, has 83 Super League appearances under his belt for London Broncos and Bradford Bulls, and spent last year in Australia with NRL club Penrith Panthers.

“He’s an athlete and brings a different dimension to the second-row. He’s as fast as any winger out there and as strong as a prop,” continued Adebisi, who is looking forward to meeting some familiar faces at the Recre.

“Whitehaven’s result is the first I look for every week. I made some good friends and enjoyed my time there.”
