Ex-Carlisle Utd loan player set for return to Brunton Park

Former Carlisle United loan player Michael Liddle returns to Brunton Park on Saturday hoping to help Accrington Stanley cause another upset.
Liddle, who signed a one-year deal at Accrington this summer after leaving Sunderland, spent six months on loan at Carlisle in the 2008/9 season.
The 22-year-old defender played 12 games on loan at the Lancashire club last season and manager Paul Cook was keen to take him back to the Crown Ground permanently.
Liddle is one of a string of new signings at Accrington after a summer of rebuilding at the League Two club.
Midfielders George Millar and Luke Clark have both joined from Preston, while 21-year-old striker Karl Sheppard has joined on a six-month loan from Reading.
Accrington dumped Carlisle out of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy last season when they defeated Greg Abbott’s side 3-2 – and Cook has his sights set on causing another upset on Saturday.
The Stanley boss said: “We want to win every game, we don’t like getting beat, I don’t accept getting beat, there’s a reason why sometimes and you’ve got to take it but we want to win.
“There’s no such game where we go there and accept getting beat.
“We’re still trying to integrate players into the squad but when we put the squad together and they work hard in training eventually it will click.
“All we’ll do is try to work hard and keep getting better and stronger, if we do that we’ll be okay.
“I’m delighted with the squad, we know we’re young, we know we’re inexperienced and we know we’re going to make mistakes but when you’ve got lads willing to learn that’s half the battle.”
Accrington lost 4-1 in their final friendly to League One new-boys Coventry City on Saturday.
It was a sharp contract to some promising pre-season results, including a 1-0 win over a strong Blackburn side and a 1-1 draw with St Mirren.
