Dual reg rugby league ace Dave Petersen’s praise for Workington Town

Dave Petersen, Workington Town’s dual registration player from Hull KR, was quick to praise the west Cumbrian outfit after making his full debut in KR’s 32-26 victory at Widnes on Sunday.
The 20-year-old loose-forward played a full 80 minutes, his second game in Super League after coming off the bench in the game against Salford City Reds on May Bank Holiday weekend.
“I’d just like to thank Workington Town and the fans for helping me on my way to getting my full debut for Rovers,” said Petersen.
“It’s great to come up to west Cumbria, to play and win and be part of a promotion-winning team,” he added.
“I train with the Rovers lads regularly, and the senior players helped my on the day. I’m really happy with my performance and I got good comments from the coaches after the game. .”
Petersen has been making the trek to west Cumbria to play and train, a journey that has been made less monotonous thanks to a Town team-mate.
“It’s a good drive but Thacks [Jamie Thackray] is good company,” said Petersen.
But he missed Town’s televised top-three defeat against Doncaster last Thursday due to not being risked by Rovers.
“It would have been nice to have been involved against Doncaster but, because I was in the Rovers’ squad, I had to sit and watch it on TV,” he added.
“Obviously, I’ll still be available for Workington if Rovers don’t need me – that depends on the coach [Craig Sandercock].
“But it’s great playing up there for a team that’s going places. Lads like Brett Carter and Graeme Mattinson, who give their all week-in, week-out, can show what they’re got in a higher division. There are quite a few players who will cope in the Championship next season.”
