Distington will be able to try once more against Kells after winning through to Iggesund Cumberland ARL’s First Division play-off final.
After finishing runners-up and then losing to league winners Kells in the qualifying semi-final, they got through by beating Maryport 16-8 in the elimination semi-final.
It was desperately close, though, without a point on the board at half-time after Maryport had actually gone into the contest as the form team. But it was Distington who emerged the stronger and more effective after the break, out-scoring Maryport by three tries to one.
Steven Newall got over twice for Distington and was joined on the score-sheet by Tyrone Dalton with Scott George landing two goals.
Phil Holliday managed to get over for Maryport but all they could add were two goals from Marc Walker.
The Kells club could land a play-off double as their A team reached the Division Two final after a 36-16 win over Aspatria Hornets.
