Distington maintain 100 per cent record to stay top

Distington stayed top of the CARL Division One and retained their 100 per cent record when they won 24-12 at Glasson Rangers.
It was an important victory, too, as the home side could have gone level on points with their visitors had they come out on top.
The damage was done in the first-half when Distington eked-out a 10-0 advantage but the second-half was much tighter, although Rangers couldn’t get in a serious blow at the lead.
Tyrone Dalton, the former Workington and Whitehaven player, grabbed two of the Distington tries and he was followed over by Gavin Martin, Karl Stephenson and Adam Conway. Martin tacked on two goals.
Richard McMillan and Nathan Lucock went in for the Glasson tries with Tom Dixon landing a couple of goals.
Maryport stayed in second place when they came away from Wath Brow with a 36-8 victory, leaving the Hornets still looking for their first point of the season.
Martin Barwise and Ashley Draper scored the Wath Brow tries but no scorers have been received from the Maryport club.
Kells were only playing their second League game of the new campaign when they made the short trip to Hensingham and came away with a big 56-6 victory.
The game was won by half-time with Kells sitting on a handsome 26-0 lead and there wasn’t any shift in power after the break.
But like Kell;s, the hosts do have a number of youngsters in the squad these days and many good judges were picking-out stars of the future from the sidelines.
Grant McLaughlin led the way for Kells with a hat-trick of tries while there was one each for Ryan Groggins, Steven Smith, Carl Schofield, Ben Milburn, Ross Gainford and Ryan Robb. Gainford converted six and Robb added the extras to one. Dean Laverick scored the Hensingham points from a try and conversion.
Cockermouth were trailing 8-6 at half-time to Broughton Red Rose but they rallied and finished strongest to win 26-8.
Mark Watson, Mark Haycock, Stewart Pickering and Jack Clark scored the Cockermouth tries with Clark adding four conversions and a penalty. The two Red Rose tries came from Adam Byers and Daniel Rayson.
It was the club derby at Seaton where the first team proved the stronger, as expected, winning 42-12.
They led 16-0 at half-time and finished with eight tries as Ryan Blair, Scott Burgess, Richard George and Miguel Blanco-Charters each crossed twice. Chris Highton kicked five goals.
Duncan Moyle was outstanding for the A team who replied with tries by Nicky Williamson and John Chisnall. Moyle kicked two goals.
As usual there were plenty of points scored in Division Two with over 100 at Kells where the home A team beat Ellenborough 68-38.
It was a very tight first-half with the lead changing several times and at the break Kells just lef 24-22. But after the change-round Kells A came on the stronger to overpower their Allerdale visitors.
Kells A were tireless in the pack where Sean High and Martin Thompson consistently took their side forward up the middle. Brad Smith creating a number of chances on his return from a long injury, but it was loose forward Dan Joyce who picked-up the man of the match award with a powerful display in both defence and attack.
As for the opposition they showed some of the old Elbra flair and fight to suggest that they will be a force to reckon with again in 2-3 years time when their galaxy of bright youngsters gain sufficient experience.
The Kells tries came from Luke Scott (3). Steven Smith (2), Ryan Watson, Brad Smith, Carl Schofield, Martin Thompson, Nathan Mann, Reece O'Neill and Dan Joyce. BARLA Under-17’s representative Ben Milburn landed ten conversions.
The Ellenborough tries came from Dave Miller, Kevin Hoban, Jamie Watson, Shane Ball, Dan Blaney, veteran Steven Stoddart and Andrew Burns. Stoddart landed five conversions.
Not far behind were Clifton as they beat Glasson A 60-14 – yet it had only been 20-6 at half-time.
Bryan Park led the scoring rush with a hat-trick while Steve Hopper, Wayne Wedgewood, Dan Riddick, Martin Wilson, Antony Hay, Mike Hill, Paul Dobinson and Danny Jones also crossed. Hill landed six conversions with one each by Hopper and Jones.
The Glasson try scorers were Mike Bethwaite, Jordan Kirk and Liam Barlow. Carl Armstrong landed a conversion.
In the final game Frizington won 54-26 at Egremont after establishing a 30-6 lead at the mid-point.
