Cumbrian petrol stations caught short-changing drivers

Spot-checks are being carried out at petrol stations across Cumbria to ensure drivers aren’t being short-changed when filling up.

Have your say

Name and Shame them!

Asda’s petrol trading director Andy Peake said: “This shows that Asda is once again leading the way in reducing prices at the pumps.”

Is this the same company that threw 10p a litre ON when they realised there was panic buying?

The article doesn't imply anything - it is what it is. Weights & Measures staff are not "regular" visitors to the pumps and fiddling most certainly can go on and not be apportioned to manufacturers' defects. Don't be naiive - if there is money to be fiddled, there are people who will tamper/tinker with the pumps. You'll be telling me next that it's impossible to falsely abstract electricity or gas from the metered supply to your house as these meters are foolproof. Wake up, smell the flowers and realise there is big money to be made from dishonesty and it's our money they are stealing unless these stations are named. This isn't a new crime either!

Why the fuss? These machines are regularly checked as shop scales used to be. Keep your eyes open and you will have seen the man with measuring equipment at petrol pumps. A none story.

I think people are getting a little carried away and confused here.

The garage owners aren't maliciously fiddling with the pumps to rip people off - there's merely a manufacturers fault with some pumps, the same way the scales in supermarkets may be faulty now and again or the self service machines in shops give the wrong change due to an error - i.e. it's not the establishment's fault, just one of those things.

Naming and shaming would be highly unfair as the garage can't help the faults and it could drive customers away. Also it states that 4 PUMPS not garages were faulty, so these are isolated incidents in each petrol station. Doesn't mean it will happen again if you visit that station - in fact you'll know the pumps are distributing fuel correctly now.

which stations were they , let us know so we can avoid them

Trading Standards should name and shame the filling stations or prosecute them.

They are criminals ripping of the honest hard working people earning their way and don't deserve their custom.

Come on, name and shame. Inform the community.

What are we paying you for? You work for us.

The garages concerned have to be named so that we taxi drivers can avoid them as we pay a lot for fuel.
Only dictatorships usually hide the names of corrupt outlets

This does happen , I fill up at a few local stations and Ive noticed the difference in one particular place and dont go there any more .Those caught and proven should be named .
