A quad bike rider was left overhanging a river after an accident on a bridge near Egremont last night.
Police, fire and the ambulance service were called to a bridge near Weddingshaw Farm, Wilton, just after 6.30pm.
Kevin Bewthwaite, fire station manager for Copeland, said the rider had been "lucky" not to have fallen into water below.
He said: "I have absolutely no idea how the accident happened but the rider was stuck on the bridge wedged in by a tree trunk. It was at road level but he was lucky not to have fallen into the stream below."
Paramedics treated the rider, a man, who was not suffering life threatening injuries.
Mr Bewthwaite said: "The country road where it happened was single track and it was blocked for a time with fire engines, police cars and an ambulance."
