Convicted Cumbrian drug dealer caught after months on the run

A convicted north Cumbrian drug dealer has been locked up after being on the run for more than three months.
According to one judge at Carlisle Crown Court, Jamie Lee Spencer Tinkler had “disappeared off the radar” after being summoned in January to explain why he had broken the terms of a suspended prison sentence imposed on him six months ago.
That judge issued a warrant for Tinkler’s arrest after being told that nothing had been heard from him since January 10 when he went for a drugs test.
But it was not until nearly three months later – at the beginning of April – that the 20-year-old was apprehended.
When he appeared in the dock at the crown court on Thursday he admitted that he had broken the terms of his suspended sentence by failing to keep appointments with his probation officer
Tinkler was given the suspended jail sentence last October, when he admitted supplying cannabis and possessing cannabis with intent to supply.
In addition to the six-month prison sentence, which was suspended for two years, he was also ordered to complete a six-month drug rehabilitation order and undergo probation supervision for a year.
It was for failing to observe those conditions, and for failing to provide documentary evidence to explain his absence, that he was brought back to court this week.
The court heard that Tinkler, who according to court records lives with his father in Peel Street, Carlisle, after being thrown out of his mother’s house at Raiselands Croft, Penrith, faced a series of new allegations including criminal damage and a public order offence, which are currently before local magistrates.
The case was adjourned for Tinkler to appear at the crown court again on May 28.
Tinkler made no application for bail and was remanded in custody.
