It's unbelievable!!! The only time the store was under targets was December.... The other 11 months this was a profitable store! And had not long had its tech refit, something carlisle hasn't. Sheer madness!!!

Reprieve on the cards?

Seems David Fletcher is "negotiating" with Deloitte, which I presume means: If we cut your rent and rates from astronomical to reasonable, you might be able to afford to stop . . ?

Read into it what you want. That's my interpretation. Pity the rents aren't resonable to start off with.

I can't believe the Workington store is closing. Much better than the one in Carlisle, mainly because there is more room and more stock to choose from. A very bad choice in my opinion.

Its just a sign of the times, the internet and supermarkets can sell the same thing cheaper and deliver it to your door. Most people dont consider that by going online you're taking money away from the high street and those who work there.

Sad to see another record shop close, but in reality they are more DVD and games outlets. The Carlisle store has a very mainstream / weak selection of music. Fans of anything but the mainstream have to go to Amazon or download sites to find what they want.

This is a shame. I spoke to one of the lads before Christmas & he was upbeat about Workington.The shop was always pretty busy when I was in.Prices were the problem & should have been addressed.So where now decent CDs &DVDs.Tesco & Morrisons only do the top40.The Books & all the other stuff ie headphones iPod accessories.A BIG MISS

Sad. I liked hmv but the pricing policy there drives me and everbody I know round the bend! Fifteen quid for something one week, a fiver the next, then a tenner a week later!! Workington hmv was packed all through Xmas having said that so I'm surprised it was operating at a loss.

While I feel for the staff that will lose their jobs and wish them well for future reemployment, this is something that should have been done ages ago. This is why so many companies are failing - they aren't shutting down their loss making sites soon enough and letting the debts amount to more than their capitol.

you never see many customers these days,looking around these type of shops.my mate buys everything on line, thats life now.sadly alot of shop workers suffer. we even use asda for on line shopping brilliant idea.
