THIS pervert who sexually abused eight young children may spend the rest of his life behind bars.
A judge has jailed Sellafield worker Nicholas McKerrow indefinitely under new powers he has to protect the public.
The 43-year-old married man, of Wasdale Park, Seascale, will not be released until he can convince the Parole Board he is not longer a risk to children.
But McKerrow will be able to apply for release for the first time after serving one year and 311 days of his sentence.
McKerrow was originally dealt with at Carlisle Crown Court last Friday but Judge Alan Taylor arranged for him to be brought back to the dock yesterday.
He spelled out exactly the terms of his sentence and told him he would get credit for the 54 days he spent on remand awaiting sentence.
McKerrow’s victims, five boys and three girls, were all aged between seven and 13. Their identities are protected by law.
McKerrow, who has three children of his own, admitted a total of eleven offences on previous occasions.
Judge Taylor said they were very serious because of their persistent nature and the number of children involved.
McKerrow, who used to work on his family farm, has been banned from working with children indefinitely and from seeing his victims for five years.
Judge Taylor dealt with him under provisions introduced by the Criminal Justice Act of 2003.
