Bin fine pair to fight court ruling

A WHITEHAVEN family who hit the national headlines after being prosecuted for overfilling their bin say the support they have received has been overwhelming.

Have your say

Its just another Council (that was elected) that is'nt in touch with the locals which its suppose to serve and does not understand what ends people go too, to do the right thing by recycling, when are they actually going to realise that this does in some instances cost a person money to recycle? the council should be happy that the public are actually giving them more recyclable items rather than just bung it in the bin for landfill.

CPip did you have children in nappies because my daughter lived on the same estate and she had a family of four too she had big problems with fortnightly wheelie bin collections and had two infants in nappies. We had to take her rubbish off her so she wouldn't get fined! This is supposed to be a service surely we should not have to do this!!!!!!

If the gentleman had paid his original fine then he wouldn't have had all this publicity and he wouldn't have a criminal record.
The offence was NOT paying the fine, and NOT the fact he had overfilled.
I live in a family of four and in over 10 year of using wheelie bin and with fortnightly collections have never ever had a need to overfill it

Copeland's actions amount to bureaucratic madness and insensitivity; What a way to win the public's hearts and minds! Councillors on Labour-dominated Copeland should make sure this never happens again.. and sack the guys who brought the prosecution. I hope Mr. and Mrs Corkhill take this to the House of Lords and, if necessary, to the European Court. And I will certainly contribute to a 'fighting fund' if they need one. Mr. Corkhill's record must be wiped clean.

This story came up again on Sky News on the 1st of May,if the National Papers also get the story of the greengrocer who was fined by Workington Council it is going to make Cumbrians into a laughing stock.

The council constantly leave paper from our recycling bins all over the road. They never pick it up.

Can we fine them for littering?

Isn't it great to see democracy at work..

The council collected our bins three days late with no warning, notice or leaflets. Can I fine them...?
