Whitehaven's Andrew Beattie eyes Workington derby clash return

Andrew Beattie could be set for a return to action in Whitehaven’s derby showdown against his former club Workington Town.
The tough Aussie, stretchered off against London Skolars almost five weeks ago with a gaping hole in his leg, has been working hard to return to full fitness since he had stitches taken out of the wound early last week.
And while he has not been ruled out of contention for Sunday’s visit of South Wales Scorpions, coach Don Gailer rates him “very doubtful”, with the trip to Derwent Park, two weeks later, possibly a more realistic target at this stage.
“The outside seems to be coming along, but it has to heal from the inside out, and maybe this week is too early,” he said. “He’s pushing himself a fair bit and can’t do any more. He has a fantastic attitude.”
Beattie has been a regular starter in the back-row this term, and his defensive ability may be a useful attribute at Workington against a Town side who have beaten Haven home and away in competitive outings this season.
Gailer’s more pressing concern is South Wales, who were nilled by Haven in Neath in April. He added: “Even though the score blew out, for 20/25 minutes it was nil-all and an arm wrestle. They were bitterly disappointed after the game, as they are growing something there, and the last couple of weeks have proved that.
“They have picked up two wins, while we had a bit of a blip last time after winning four in a row. It’s important we get back on track.”
