A man organising a fundraising gig in memory of his dad has landed pop band Black Lace to perform at next year’s event.
Kelvin Wood has got the duo – famous for hits including Agadoo, Do The Conga and Superman – to top the bill at the September 14, 2013 event in memory of his dad Lance who died of liver cancer in 2009.
Cindy Hoten, Red Spider, Dougie B and Plastic Paddy will also perform as well as Kelvin’s group, The Mass.
Host Ryan Dollard from ITV Border will return again next year.
Kelvin said: “It’s taken a lot of research and hard work but steadily I’ve been building up a list of contacts for future events.
“Having Jimmy Cricket as the first major signing this year has opened a lot of doors for the concert.
“For me it’s a case of trying to get something that my dad would’ve liked. If you don’t ask you don’t get – but I never imagined it to be as big as it is now.
“I’m over the moon that names like Black Lace and Jimmy Cricket are willing to get involved along with the cream of local talent.”
Kelvin, of Oaklands Drive, Upperby, raised £2,058 for Macmillan Cancer Support at the third LW Rock for Macmillan concert at the Shepherd’s Inn in Carlisle earlier this month.
There was also a new addition of The Lance Wood Helping Hand Award of £200 which was awarded to the Eden Valley Hospice.
Acts included Big D, Mickey Diamond, Tori Louise, Plastic Paddy, The Mass, Finding Albert and Jimmy Cricket.
Kelvin, 39, said: “This year’s gig was out of this world – all the acts hit absolute top form and couldn’t have asked for more with Jimmy Cricket being an outstanding highlight for me.
“Returning to next year’s event will also be The Lance Wood Helping Hand Award where everyone will be asked to suggest a charity and one will be pulled out of a hat on the night to receive a donation of £200 from the LW Rock 4 Macmillan concert.”
