Abbott keeps Carlisle Utd players guessing over Charlton team

Jordan Cook is waiting to see if he will get the chance to prove Carlisle United can cope without Lee Miller in tomorrow’s big home clash with Charlton Athletic.

United manager Greg Abbott has not yet decided who will lead the line.

However, he conceded that Cook had put himself in the frame after the Sunderland loan striker’s late double earned the Blues a memorable midweek win at MK Dons.

“Jordan has given himself a lot of ammunition lately with his goals, but others will be just as keen,” said Abbott. “I haven’t named the team but I have named the formation and everybody has had a go at that [in training].

“The obvious ones for Lee’s role are Francois Zoko, Jordan, Andy Welsh and Paddy Madden for the position up front in the particular formation that I decide.

"They will all want to play, but it is finding the right ones to fit in to our play. You are saying to some people to go and prove Lee is not as important as we think he is right now.”

With left-back Chris Chantler also ruled out for the rest of the season, Peter Murphy could continue at left-back rather than risk bringing back long-term absentee Matty Robson.

Robson and skipper Paul Thirlwell are both fit for selection but their lack of match fitness might prove a concern for their manager.

Chris Powell’s Charlton side could guarantee promotion on Saturday if they beat Carlisle and Sheffield Wednesday fail to win at Colchester.
