12 hours of music, dance and floods fundraising

A 12-HOUR fundraising event, held at Whitehaven’s Civic Hall, looks set to help raise around £10,000 for Cumbria’s Flood Relief Appeal.
Organisers Carol Hollins, Sarah Servant, Judith Jones and Lee Shackley, had already collected nearly £8,000 from events held across West Cumbria.
And it is hoped that thousands more can be added to this total following the event which took place last Sunday.
Beginning at 11am with a sponsored session of aerobics, run by Tracey Telfer, of Rosemary Conley Fitness Clubs, the event continued with a Zumba fitness session with Mat and Shameem Arnold.
A live lounge, with acoustic acts such as Roy Robson, was followed in the evening by a gala night including Committed to Rock Choir, John and Cath Marcangelo, Salvador, the Solway Delta Blues Band, Judith Jones Band and Skunk.
There was also a well-supported tombola and grand prize raffle. Carol and Sarah raised £210 by wearing pink wigs on the day.
Carol said: “We have been fundraising since the floods eight weeks ago. It has been hard work but well worth it. We would like to thank everyone who helped and supported us.’’
