Peebles Rovers 1 Bowholm 4 BOWHOLM came away with a fantastic win when they travelled to Peebles for their first game of the new season.
Bowholm went at Rovers straight from the kick-off and played some great football.
They were rewarded on 11 minutes when new signing Micky Dawson opened the scoring. He beat two men and gave the goalie no chance with his shot from just inside the box.
Lewis Hawes hit the post with a header and Dawson hit the bar from a free kick. Brian Mattinson raced clear and he lobbed the advancing keeper but the ball went just wide.
Bowholm were stunned on 26 minutes when Peebles equalised against the run of play. This lifted the home side but Bowholm slowly got back on top and went 2-1 up when Dawson scored again with a backpost header.
Bowholm made it 3-1 one minute from half time when Mattinson finished off a fine move.
The second half started off more evenly. Peebles were attacking more but the young Bowholm defence of Chris Stewart, Scott Weir, Andy Rayson and Jack Pool were coping well and keeper Rob Murray was as safe as houses behind them.
Bowholm had two great chances to go 4-1 up on 58 and 60 minutes but Barry Rayson’s header and Mattinson's shot both went narrowly wide.
The game would have been over but it got worse as Barry Rayson was sent off. Peebles pushed hard but Bowholm held firm with Stix Muir to the fore and they made the game safe on 83 minutes when Mattinson scored his second to make the final score 4-1.
This was a great start to the campaign for Bowholm. Their next game is at home to St Boswells this Saturday with a 2.30pm kick-off.
Team: R Murray, C Stewart, S Weir, A Rayson, J Pool, L Hawes, B Rayson, S Muir, M Dawson, S Collins, B Mattinson, J Hetherington, D Johnstone, A Turnbull.
