Apprenticeships reflect UK trend
Last updated at 11:41, Thursday, 27 March 2008
EDUCATION secretary Ed Balls recently credited young people, schools, colleges and those offering work-based training for exceeding targets for 2008.
The target of 73.4 per cent of 19-year- olds who achieve at least Level 2 has been beaten, with at least 73.9 per cent of 19- year-olds and 48 per cent of 16-year-olds reaching a Level 3.
This national trend is also reflected in last year’s achievement figures at Lakes College, with 100 per cent of under 19s achieving at least a Level 2. In addition to high achievement figures there is a rising trend towards students choosing work-based learning as an educational route, with the 07/08 learner numbers having risen this year to 34 per cent.
In line with government directives the college has also introduced new occupational areas including plumbing, brickwork, mechanical engineering and childcare and is currently applying to deliver IT apprenticeships for 08/09.
The following recruitment sessions are planned:
n April 1: Joinery/Brickwork/Plumbing
n April 2: Business Admin/Customer Service/Retail
n April 3: Electrical Installation/Mechanical Engineering
n April 4: Childcare/Catering
